A Bazaar of Hope: JBCN International School’s Contribution to SDG Goal 3
At JBCN International School, a spark of an idea has grown into a remarkable journey of change, proving that age is no barrier to making a meaningful difference. What began two years ago as a small thought—how can our learning of entrepreneurship give back to society?—has blossomed into an inspiring annual tradition. Now in its third year, the Grade 4 Bazaar is a shining example of creativity, compassion, and impact.
It all starts in the classrooms, where young learners dive into their unit How We Organize Ourselves. They explore the concept of economic activities, asking essential questions:
What role does supply and demand play? (Function)
How are goods and services distributed? (Connection)
What are our responsibilities as producers and consumers? (Responsibility)
Under the guidance of their teachers, these eager minds delve into the intricacies of using resources, calculating costs, and generating profits. But what makes this learning journey truly special is how they transform knowledge into action.
With creativity as their compass, learners design and craft an array of handmade items—jewelry, soaps, macramé coasters, keychains, decorated diaries, hair bows, gaming cards, and more. Once their creations are ready, they step into the roles of young entrepreneurs. They determine pricing by factoring in material costs, time, and effort, preparing to share their work with the community.
The big day arrives, and excitement fills the air as the vibrant Grade 4 Bazaar comes to life. Parents, peers, and teachers gather to witness the entrepreneurial spirit of these young changemakers. Confidently presenting their products, the learners embody the principles of economics they’ve studied, blending education with real-world experience.
However, this bazaar is about more than business. Every rupee earned carries a deeper purpose. The profits are donated to Cuddles Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting children battling cancer by providing vital nutrition for healing and growth.
Last year, the bazaar raised an impressive ₹1.25 lakh—a sum that brought hope and health to many young lives. This initiative beautifully aligns with SDG Goal 3: "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages."- making sure that everyone has access to quality health care. By connecting their classroom learning to real-world impact, the Grade 4 learners experience the profound joy of giving back.
Reflecting on the journey, one learner shared, "It felt amazing to know that the money we raised helped children our age. It taught us that even small actions can make a big difference."
Through this annual event, JBCN International School showcases the power of integrating the Sustainable Development Goals into its curriculum. The Grade 4 Bazaar is more than just an event—it is a testament to how education can empower young minds to create a ripple of positive change in the world.
Each handcrafted item, each lesson learned, and each life touched serves as a reminder that these young entrepreneurs are not only learning—they are leading the way toward a brighter future.
