Waste Management & Zero Hunger

Technological advancements and growing environmental awareness led to the development of more sophisticated waste management practices. We continue to innovate, seeking ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste. Waste is something which keeps on adding every single time we purchase a product, we eat or do any activity. As the future generation, we the TIMEANS thought of creating awareness amongst our friends, families and community.

Our school supported this by conducting a Project Exhibition in our school, focusing on sustainable development. We took advantage of this to implement our ideas in waste management. First of all, we created a prototype of existing model of Indore City waste management which helped the city to win the ‘Cleanest City in India’ title for 7 years in a row. We created a ‘Clean Robot’ which can be used to collect garbage easily and help the workers to do their job quickly. It also helps them to maintain hygiene. As we realized that creating awareness and removing the trash will not solve the issue, we should have a waste management system where we can reduce food waste. With this thought, my friend created an app named ‘Kshudha Nivritti’.

Kshudha Nivritti is the Sanskrit word for Hunger Satisfaction. This idea had got into my mind when we had a small get together and we had a good time with family members but at the end we had a lot of food untouched that was wasted, then, my father suggested to pack food in small zip lock covers and give to people were needy. When we discussed about this idea, we got to know that there are not many platforms which connect people who are in need of food with people who are ready to distribute food.

Our App will help connecting people who are in need of food with the ones who are ready to supply. This will help in reducing the food waste especially during poojas, wedding and other functions and also help people satiate their hunger. When we heard the announcement of school exhibition , I made up my mind to work on this idea of distributing food which gets wasted and ends up in dustbins instead of empty stomachs. But we had an issue--- how to know who would require food and who have food left over at their places , when I started researching about this, we came to know that a lot of food would be left over during marriages or certain other parties or get togethers, so we first made a list of people who would require food

  1. Orphanage

  2. Old age homes

  3. Local govt hospitals where people come from far off places and don’t have any facility of cooking food.

So, we had the source of food and people who require food but we had a difficulty in connecting these two. Then we thought of making an app where people who have food to donate and people who require food also to register on it so we made arrangements that we set the distribution according to priority.

We still have some problems like -

  1. How to transfer food from one place to other

  2. Quantity of food to be arranged according to the requirement

We are trying to first start it in a small area and then have this app for all where they can share food with the needy. Join us on Mission Kshudha Nivritti.
